Sgt. Travis C. Reed and his Iraqi Deer

Here's a little about me. I'm with MALS-29 from New River Air Base, but attached to MALS-16 serving in Iraq. Will be returning to New River around September.

The story behind this Iraqi deer was one of stealth, patience, and luck. Armed with only a knife and camoflauged with my desert utilities and Mossy Oak sunshades I was able to stalk within ambush distance. It was a fight to the end, but as you can see I won. I did the taxidermy work myself. That's pretty much the story there.

Oh, the firearm. Those little deer are so ferocious and fast that before I could get my rifle up he was already upon me. The little Iraqi deer are only found in the hottest regions of the desert to where it reaches over 110 degrees. The season opens in June when the heat is high enough that it brings them out. Therefore makes the hunt that much harder trying to bag one of these rascals in the hottest part of the day.
